Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster

The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG gullwing debuted at the Frankfurt show this month, and now our spy photographer caught the SLS Roadster out testing near the Nürburgring. We’ve seen it once before, stopped near a Mazda event with the gullwing version.

We expect the SLS to have put on some weight in convertible form, as added bracing is required to stiffen the body. We’ll have to wait until we get more information to find out how performance is affected as a result.

Check out the SLS AMG Roadster in the above gallery, or scroll down for the photographer’s notes.

While the Mercedes AMG SLS was presented at the IAA in Frankfurt, the guys from AMG took a short trip to the Nürburgring with its latest baby, the SLS Roadster. They did however don’t take it for some quick laps this time, maybe they just wanted to show the SLS Roadster where its Gullwing brother has been testing for a while. But I think it’s just a matter of time before it will do the same as every other AMG does at the Ring, lapping some very fast laps.
There will be no technical changes to the Roadster compared to the Gullwing but since there is no fixed roof and therefore the body has been strengthen and added some weight, we suspect that the Roadster could be slightly slower. But that’s nothing we would complain over while cruising at the French Riviera.
Expect the SLS Roadster to be unveiled during the next months, at latest in Geneva in March 2010.
