If you like hurtling down a narrow, crowded, curvy road at 45 miles an hour in what looks a lot like a squashed muffin on wheels then this is the race for you.
The Rickshaw Challenge is open for registration! This three-wheeled, two-stroke eyesore is often used in place of taxis in India and participants are invited to race them across the Deccan Plateau. The Rickshaw Challenge is spread out over a span of six months, starting in August and ending in April. There are several different races that participants can take part in, the longest one being a circular route, of 1406 miles, around South India over a span of eleven days. The competition is expensive, the cheapest race costing $2143 plus an optional deposit of $1500 to protect your auto. However, all the money goes towards a good cause; to raise awareness and funds to increase education in India. You can customize and pimp your rickshaw in time for your race, at an additional cost of course.
Participating in the race will give you a chance to drive one of the looniest vehicles known to man and will also allow you to see what India really is like. Let us know if you plan to register for the challenge and don’t forget your camera!
