The Application Of Power: 2009 BMW 335d vs. 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP
At first blush, a comparison test between the BMW 335d and the Pontiac G8 GXP is kind of a non-starter. The first; a premium, mid-sized, diesel-powered, German sedan—purpose built for high-speed, high-MPG motorway cruising with exceptional road holding and manners. The second; a brutal, full-sized (massive rear seats here), chromed out, American (née Australian) V-8, burnout machine. But while origin, intent, and execution for these two driving devices may be wildly varied, they do share one delicious commonality—huge, steaming piles of torque delivered to the rear wheels. A magnificent amount of twist, produced by two powerplants that differ just as much as the vehicles they propel.

Given their respective price points, GM did an excellent job with the interiors in the Cadillac CTS, the Buick Enclave and the Chevrolet Malibu. Why didn't they put the same effort into the G8 interior??? The interior on the G8 would prevent me from seriously considering purchasing one. I have never been overly thrilled with the BMW's interior (which may be one reason that the two times I seriously looked at BMW's I purchased something else), but it is so much nicer than the G8, there is no comparison.

I've heard the complaint about the G8 interior, but honestly I don't get it. To me it looks better than the Malibu (which isn't bad, just overstyled for my taste). The CTS is okay too, though a little glitzy. But the design of the G8 GT and GXP interiors is clean and functional. The materials aren't perfect, but they aren't in the Malibu or a BMW or a Mercedes either. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just asking specifically what you didn't like?

Agree 100%. I own pontiac and a BMW. Love both of them. I find the BMW materials nicer, but the overall layout very similar. I really don't like the current BMW dash. Cost aside, BMW is nicer. Is it worth 2x GM's price?? Depends on your income bracket.

The G8 interior is simple and driver oriented. The materials could be a littler better in some aspects. I would still have the 335d over the G8 however. I am a diesel fan boy and the 335d is the best diesel sedan on the market. I don't need the space of a G8 nor will I ever need it because I am not a tall man, my wife likely won't be tall so a 3 series will be just fine.
I'm not a big badge buyer but as far as the buying public goes, the Michigan plates on the G8 and the California plates on the 335d say it all.
