2008 Ford Mustang Bullitt

WR30 Ford Mustang Bullitt

The Bullitt is arguably the best new Mustang offshoot to come along so far. The other candidate would be the Shelby GT500, but the Shelby is much more heavily breathed upon and the immutable law of hot-rodding has had its effect, id est: “Speed Costs Money: How Fast Do You Want To Go?” The Shelby goes out the door at $42,915. The Bullitt can be yours for $31,075. By the time you read this, Bullitt Mustangs should be appearing in your neighborhood.

The Bullitt is one of those rare cars that looks you right square in the eye and says, “Buy me!” One drive home from work and we were hooked. After four days we were loath to return the Bullitt to its rightful owner, the Ford Motor Company.

The physical appearance of the Bullitt is a home run on the first pitch. In these days of garish chrome pieces and panels, and glitzy twenty-inch wheels that shine like Idi Amin’s medals, the Bullitt is all restraint. It comes only in black or Highland Green, and its eighteen-inch wheels are designed so that they can be easily mistaken for the original American Racing Torq-Thrusts. There is a minimal use of emblems and nomenclature, and the result is a 2008 Mustang Bullitt that looks amazingly like the 1968 original, an impression that’s achieved half with hardware and half with attitude.
