American Driver
April Fools’ Day approaches as I prepare to remove myself from these premises and take up new digs at the world headquarters of the Points and Condenser Preservation Society in Ypsilanti, Michigan, about fifteen minutes from my home. That is a big old warehouse where a group of us keep our special-interest automobiles. My 1962 Corvette and my wife’s 1951 Cadillac have wintered there several times in years past. As it happens, someone created a suite of new offices there two years ago, and never moved into them. I intend to fill that void.
The new offices will be more than large enough for me (1800 square feet), but barely adequate for all my stuff. All of the walls and partitions in the WINDING ROAD offices are covered with my memorabilia, and fully a third of the furniture in this office belongs to me, as does the entire library.
Let me list some of the stuff in my own small office, which I am about to vacate.
