Though it’s destined to be called Nubira by Daewoo drivers in other countries, this spied vehicle will be introduced to American drivers as the replacement for the Chevrolet Cobalt, now dubbed Cruze.

Caught testing in Europe, the new Cruze seems to be blessed with more sophisticated styling than its current counterpart, here looking decidedly crisp despite its camouflage, though perhaps just a little under-wheeled. Chevy designers seem to have waved the same wand used to transform the looks of older brother Malibu, with the same cleaned-up lines and attractive, multi-element light clusters now appearing here.

The Cruze will share its underpinnings and engine range with the new Opel Insignia (Saturn Aura) and Opel Astra (Saturn Astra), but is expected to be priced well below its platform-mates. We look for the Nubira to make its European debut in 2010, though the Cruze’s U.S. launch date is still a moving target.
