This one is not free. Not part of the annual subscription. It also cost almost as much as an annual subscription. Hmm... Even if it were part of the annual subscriber cost, I would still have an issue with the focus of this issue. So much for my desire to own the full collection of Winding Road’s digital issues, but I have to draw the line when it comes to overt perpetuation of the BMW mystique presented in a vacuum.
Unfortunately I don't worship BMW enough to buy this one. The issue price goes along with the skewed attitude of BMW disciples and the realities of BMW. Brash, undeservedly snobby even... Let's not leave out regularly overrated, with overpriced options.
In much of the automotive press, even when BMW misses the mark against competitors in every category, they still seem to be given the prize. Sometimes the bias is blatantly obvious or even unashamedly professed. Many times it is subtlety masked. I can only assume there is plenty of money for the automotive press coming from BMW to aid in prolonging of the myth.
This edition would have been more useful and had more appeal to me if Mercedes and Audi were included in the offering to balance out the automotive realities and allow for a solid foundation for buyer comparisons.
Even though I hope you do not, you will likely do well with this narrowly focused issue. I prefer a less exclusive approach to learning about automobiles. It would make me less convinced my auto news sources have sold out.Tom Martin
Just to be clear, we've collected and expanded our BMW material from recent years here because there is a lot of interest in BMW; we haven't written an ode to BMW (for that you can visit BMWUSA.com). Comparisons with other brands are included. We pan some BMWs as well.
We made it a special edition (it doesn't replace a monthly issue) because we know not everyone is interested in this subject.
There are no ads in here and since these things aren't free to produce we'd appreciate reader support (if you're interested in the material, natch). When we do have sponsorship, we make these special editions free.
We'll have special editions that don't focus on a single brand (see the Road Trip special edition), fear not.

I do like your magazine - I do pay for it - but that is too much.
I can't imagine anyone to pay that price - but maybe BMW already paid enough to meet your expanses.
